A Dynamic Multi-modal Transport Simulation Model

چکیده
This paper discusses the development of a dynamic multi-modal transport simulation model. Conventionally, multi-modal transportation system analysis is only carried out in a static framework and dynamic framework is limited to the single mode i.e. road traffic. The decision making process of an individual regarding use of transport system involves mainly three types of decisions namely, departure time choice, mode choice and route choice. This research models these three choice processes in a dynamic framework. Departure time choice along with mode choice provides the time dependent demand for each of the mode. This fact should also be appreciated that the transport supply also changes with time for example the supply of the public transport changes with change in frequency during different times of day and the road traffic which is a non-stationary phenomenon especially during the congested time periods due to evolution and dissipation of queue is also a dynamic process which changes over time. Static analysis ignores these time-dependent variations which prohibits the application of such models to analyze the policies which are time-dependent such as time-varying road pricing. This research extends the dynamic modeling from a uni-modal (i.e. road traffic) case to a multimodal case in addition to the departure time choice modeling. The paper is organized as following: Section 2 provides the background and literature review of the existing research in this area. Section 3 provides the framework of the overall proposed model and a brief introduction to different components of the model. Section 4 provides details about the case study using the proposed methodology in addition to the data requirements and data sources. Section 5 provides the conclusion and future research direction.

Preliminary results on multi-body dynamic simulation of a new test rig for wheel-rail contact
The ability to perform rolling contact fatigue (RCF) experiments in wheel–rail material is provided by a new small–scale test rig, manifesting the actual dynamic behaviour of the railway system. In this paper, a multi-body dynamics (MBD) model is proposed, simulating the vibration behaviour of the prescribed rig. The new testing facility is modelled using a three-dimensional model of the vehicl...
متن کاملEffects of track characteristics on dynamic responses of train-bridge systems
High speed trains are an indispensable part of rapid transportation systems in many countries. As the fastest means of transport on the ground, these trains are extremely sensitive to the terrain and track conditions. Geometrical irregularities and mechanical characteristics of the track, together with inconsistencies in the lane (including bridges that support the track) are considered importa...

متن کاملSimulation of Simplified Computational Model of Jacket Structure with Timoshenko Cantilever Beam and Experimental Signature
Today many complex models, typically finite element models, have been employed in the analysis of jacket offshore structures. However, these comprehensive models are not readily adopted in engineering practice, especially during the preliminary design stage. As the dynamic analysis of jacket platforms is very complicated, it will be very advantageous to make a simplified computational method to...
متن کاملA Novel Method for Travel System Patterns
Due to population growth in urban areas, especially in the capital cities in developing countries, the use of private vehicles are increasing, leading to many problems such as congestion, pollution, noise, long travel time, high travel cost and more side effects. In such circumstances government policy would encourage people to use public transportation. In the meantime, employing the Intellige...
